As the year comes to an end, people across the world engage in a quite common practice. Although it’s less popular than the regular parties, picnics, eat outs and what nots, New Year Resolution has a formidable following and is in fact a great way to bring about progression in oneself if actually brought into action. In fact, they can truly be brought to real life, but they are probably at a toughness level of 88. The reasons being more than a couple.
New year resolutions are not less than often quite far fetched. For example, a 110 Kilo person will surely not be able to get a buff body over the holiday season. It’s like Mr. Gogoi being elected the next Prime Minister of India. It is because resolutions unlike habits make us try to change ourselves to a very different person over a very short period of time. To lose weight, you can only start slowly on habits like low diet and light exercises and gradualy move up the chart. Of course, the author is a good example of breaking that resolution for more than two years in a row.
Thus, the elder brother of habits, resolutions tend to be elusive of our capacity. Willpower is highly mandatory to keep your resolutions cemented and unbroken.
These resolutions range from the most popular ones like losing weight of which we made an example previously and also quitting the yellow-brown end of the smoking stick to the less common and deep emotional resolutions like anger management.
But as we talk about our own resolutions. what about the resolutions a nation makes? If the nation has a strong will power as talked before, she can succed in keeping her resolutions for more than many new years. What resolutions can India make for this new year of 2014?
- RULING THE REALM
During the last year, people got quite frustrated over the monarchs governing us, leading us to a change over at Delhi. Change is good. In fact, change is always better. Now the resolution is to keep the change coming and let it stayfor long. Because change is good, chage is better.
- HAVE WE ATTAINED OUR FREEDOM YET?
We are celebrating our 66th independent New Year this year but are we truly free? At these times, don’t we have to question ourselves before letting the rainbow colours of love fly? Why do we have to let others decide our priorities for us? If we still have to deem a certain group or section of people unworthy to be loved and if we have to continue living in a state of affairs that criminalise the most base of all human feelings, we have clearly not attained freedom in the true sense of the term. So we surely need to resolve to rethink our own stand in our own freedom and at least let love be free for all.
- MUSIC, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT
India is quite obviously gearing up for an entertainment revolution over the past few years. The key is as before; change. The recent years and especially 2013 saw the rise of many new artists at the mainstream level including Papon, Clinton Cerejo, Nitin Swahney, Arijit Singh etc. Gone are the days when all Bollywood movie albums used to be dominated by the same names and musical styles. Also, underground music making it large through various big named festivals like NH7 Weekender and Sunburn have started opening up the minds of the general Indian audience. The resolution needs to be such that the variety of culture and wide armed welcomes for intermixes and mingling of worl wide entertainment clouds needs to be maintained. The temperament of Indian Masses needs to be a subject of change but only by tiny baby steps so that the card castle doesn’t collapse upon itself.
Many more such resolutions need to be taken and actually brought into action by turning them into habits very gradually. As said before, willpower and commitment towards your new year resolution will bear you good fruits. Lets face it, most of us have been subjects of failed resolutions. But a nation’s resolution is of utmost importance and should always bear the foreground. For if we work as a nation, we are sure to succeed.
